Cheers to English Wine Week! 15 May 2025 Are you partial to a crisp glass of white or rosé? Perhaps you love a warming red with your Sunday roast? With Wine GB’s celebratory English Wine Week just around the corner (21st – 29th June 2025), we thought it would be rude not to shine a spotlight on English wines! If you picture a vineyard, do you immediately imagine an international landscape, with rows of vines standing beneath the sun? Well… You also may or may not be surprised to hear there are over 1000 commercial vineyards here in England! The question is: Why buy English wine? When buying English wines, together, we’re choosing to support local growers, British farmers, and our economy as a whole. And by popping a bottle into our baskets that hasn’t been imported, we’re simultaneously helping to reduce our carbon footprints. Despite how we may feel about the cooler spells we experience (!), English vines flourish in our climate. Coupled with the quality soil types that can be found across the UK, vines produce plump and juicy grapes, which transform into refreshingly light wines. So in summary, English wines have a distinctive, delicious and de-‘vine’ flavour, and they’re also good for the planet – cheers to that! In our farm shops, you’ll discover bottles of our three own-labelled English wines: a Red, a White and a Rosé. Not only do the grapes used to produce them originate from this country, they’re actually grown here in Herefordshire within Radlow Hundred‘s vineyard at Wyer Croft Farm, and, are harvested and bottled just five miles away by their team. How amazing is that?! (Pictured above – sitting on our shelves alongside our wines in Bromyard, you’ll see our Extra Dry Gin, Spiced Rum, Classic Vodka, and our signature Vintage Cider: made with cider apples from Wyer Croft Farm and crafted within five miles too!) So without further ado, let’s meet our small but mighty wine collection, shall we? 1. English Red Wine: Rondo With a hint of vanilla touches and a damson nose, this ruby red soft Rondo is a medium-bodied red. Notes of dark currants and a hint of pepper lift the cherry flavour, a gentle oaked edge and light tannins bring this single variety wine to a playful, pleasing finish. 2. English Rosé Wine Alluring summer berry aromas burst through with hints of green tea. The refreshing flavours of strawberries and limes balance the sweetness with a medium dry finish. Perfect for sunny alfresco dining. 3. English White Wine: Solaris The honeydew melon nose is enlivened by the natural citrus of the ripening wine. With hints of honey and lemon, the crisp wine flows smoothly, teasing an enticing dry palate with a delicate, clean finish. Will you be raising a glass to English wines during English Wine Week in June? Will you be reaching for a red, white or rosé? If they happen to be from Herefordshire, please do let us know what you think of them – we always love hearing from you! The Everything Legges Box £75.00 View Product
