'I was taken to Legges, a butcher in Bromyard. This is the antithesis of everything you are told about rural shops. Big and bustling, with things that yelled “Eat me”, and almost everything collected within five miles of the shop. Its pie was made with short hot-water crust, perhaps not quite as much jelly as you’d like, but the meaty filling has a wonderful piggy flavour. the straight-up spicing of the white pepper gave it that characteristic palely hot afterburn. This was a round-voweled fistful of pie that knew its Ps from its Qs.'

Legges beat off competition to win the Best Retailer Award at the HEFF Diamond Awards.
HEFF is a food group for the heart of England, celebrating the best of local food and drink from across Shropshire, Staffordshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Black Country and Birmingham.
We underwent an unannounced store visit from a panel of experts who were scoring the range of local produce, in store merchandising and how local products were promoted and the knowledge of the staff.
The annual food and drink award scheme for producers, retailers and hospitality members showcasing and raising the profile of the finest food and drink from the heart of England. In excess of 250 entries are judged over two days by more than seventy industry experts, their combined experience and expertise adds enormous value to the honour of becoming a Diamond Award winner.
The awards were presented in the company of fellow producers and sector professionals at the HEART of ENGLAND fine foods gala dinner, an annual celebration of regional food and drink attracting sponsorship from leading food retailers and associated businesses.
